"Supergirl" News: Dean Thrilled With Role On The Upcoming CBS Show

There really is no shortage of comic book adaptations available today. While there is no question that Marvel dominates the big screen, it seems like DC characters have found their niche on television.
The success of multiple comic book-based series spans the majority of major broadcasting networks. So it comes as no suprise that CBS took an opportunity to cash in on the trend with their upcoming DC-based series, "Supergirl."
"Supergirl," which was first announced in September of last year, is an American television series based on the DC Comics character created by Otto Blinder and Al Plastino of the same name. It follows the adventures of Kara Danvers/Kara Zor-el, as she comes to terms with the powers she was born with and uses those powers to help other people.
When the cast of the series was announced, fans were admittedly doubtful about the decision to cast Melissa Benoist as the titular character. While Benoist has been on several productions, she is only recognizable from her role in the musical series, Glee. Thankfully, they were put to ease by the fact that most of the supporting actors in the show have been involved one time or the other with the production of "Supergirl" or "Superman."
It was announced that Helen Slater and Dean Cain would play Supergirl's adoptive parents, Sylvia and Fred Danvers. Slater herself was Supergirl in the 80s film adapatation of the character while Dean Cain starred in the widely successful 90s show "Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman" as no other than, Superman.
In a recent interview, Cain even gushed about how wonderful it is to be part of the production of the well-beloved superhero series. He said, "We're her [Supergirl] foster parents on earth and we raise her to be a normal person. But then in the pilot episode obviously she shows that she's Supergirl. It's pretty exciting. It's fun. It's awfully strange to be the dad though. Five minutes ago I was the guy, now I'm the dad."
